Children’s Ministry Director

Position Title: Children’s Ministry Director 

Role: To guide planning and development of a Bible learning program for children of ages 0 – 10 years old.

General Management Objectives:  To lead Bible study, outreach, and discipleship for children; as well as recruit and develop staff and volunteers to serve on the Children’s Ministry team.

Supervisor: Senior Pastor

Hours: 20 hours/week; Sundays 8:00 am – 12:00 pm and Weekdays as necessary

Pay: $18/hour



  1. Pray regularly for each member of the Children’s Ministry team and each child in your ministry.
  2. Develop and oversee the strategic vision and planning of programs and activities in coordination with staff and volunteers.
  3. Serve as a guide to expand and nurture the growth of our Children’s Ministry.
  4. Communicate with church leaders and the congregation regarding the purpose, value, and procedures of Children’s Ministry.
  5. Present an annual budget for children’s activities to the Stewardship Committee.
  6. Oversee the training and development of staff and volunteers to ensure care and age-appropriate lessons and activities are being provided. 
  7. Assist in coordinating child-care for special worship and discipleship events.
  8. Recruit leaders, teachers, and volunteers for all Children’s Ministry positions.
  9. Plan and coordinate a regular training program for all Children’s Ministry staff.
  10. Assist in coordinating child-care for special worship and discipleship events.

Discipleship and Outreach

  1. Direct and promote age-appropriate Bible study program and activities that fosters spiritual development. 
  2. Guide the work of the Preschool and Children’s Ministry team.
  3. Oversee the purchase, distribution, and use of all equipment and supplies (curriculum, snacks, art supplies, etc.).
  4. Provide discipleship classes.
  5. Coordinate Children’s Ministries with church leaders (Worship, Missions, and Outreach Ministries).
  6. Identify outreach opportunities and ministry involvement of young people.
  7. Work with the administrative manager to coordinate the calendar of all children’s activities including, but not limited to, Discipleship, Children’s Choirs (musicals/pageants), mission groups, etc.

Safety and Compliance

  1. Develop, implement, and maintain compliance of child safety and security plan; provide education regarding plan to all church leaders.
  2. Communicate and coordinate the church’s approved safety policy to all Children’s Ministry staff and volunteers, and regularly evaluate. 
  3. Provide necessary background checks for staff and volunteer approval to serve in the children’s ministries, as required by our insurance policy and ministry guidelines.

POSITION: Part-Time Nursery Assistant
PURPOSE: To provide dependable and nurturing care to our children ages 0-4 in a safe
and clean environment during regular church services and other special events.
HOURS: Sunday 8:00 am – 12:00 pm, and other times for special service events as
needed. Hours will generally be about 5 hours/week.
COMPENSATION: $14.00/hour
 Greet parents warmly and engage with the children as they are dropped off
 Be polite, friendly, and courteous to all children, parents, and volunteers
 Provide for the emotional, physical and social needs of young children
 In the event of an emergency notify the parent/guardian immediately
 Ensure child safety and childcare policies are enforced
 Maintaining registration records
 Bottle feeding
 Change diapers as needed
 Assist potty-trained children as necessary
 Put children down for naps
 Hold or sit with children
 Interact with children through games, stories, play and prayer
 Provide updates about feedings, diapers, etc. to parents at pick-up time
 Ensure children are released to appropriate parent
 Sanitize and clean linens, toys, and surface areas
 Must be at least 18 years of age
 Infant/child CPR and First Aid certified
 Previous Child Care Experience preferred
 Able to lift up to 20 pounds
 Satisfactory completion of background check and drug screening
 Must present the results of current (within 1 year) Tuberculin and current
 Demonstrate character, core values and personal lifestyle compatible with a Christ-
centered ministry and be willing to embrace the mission and vision of Berea Baptist
 Report to nursery leader any issues preventing duties/responsibilities from being
 Two-week advanced communication with the nursery leader any planned absences
